Thanks to Yearbook photographers Skylar, Kelsyn, Abigail L., Chloe, Regina, Kyra, Luke, Margo, and Savannah for their awesome event coverage and Micah, Savannah, and Avian for their photo booth operation. Please give these kids some affirmations when you see them next!

TRUNK OR TREAT: The run-up to Spooky Season was a super successful Trunk Or Treat hosted by National Honor Society. They raised over $3500 for many Chugiak organizations, including Sunshine Fund, NJROTC, eSports, WDS, Improv, Photography Club, AMPED, DDF, and more.

STAFF SHOW UP: Staff overwhelmingly won Spirit dress-up days, to the point where we had to stop reporting it because we knew the students would give up. Nice work team!

HYGIENE DRIVE: The staff won the Hygiene Drive!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN: A small sampling of the Halloween Costumes featured at Chugiak on Tuesday.

PAINTING PUMPKINS: Unified Art painted pumpkins on Tuesday.

PUMPKIN JUDGES: Thanks to Karis, Tirzah, and Audrey for judging the pumpkin contest on Wednesday.

SCAVENGERS: The Scavenger hunt was a bundle of fun. Thank you to Dan, Angie, Keri, and Rebecca for providing stamps at the secret locations on Wednesday.

PHOTO BOOTH FUN: The photo booth is officially up and running. The prints cost about 20 cents each, so each spirit day only cost us about $12 to print all the photos needed. We will do a cost analysis and see if we can keep providing the prints for free on spirit days. It certainly helps the photobooth move faster since we don’t have to stop and let students scan the QR code. If you’d like to rent the photobooth for your event, reach out! We’d love to cover Chugiak events for cheap or free and non-Chugiak events for a fair rental price in the near future.

GETTING SCIENCE-Y: Mr. Mason’s class did their famous bubble lab on Monday, and Ms. Alex’s class conducted their flame lab on the same day. Check out the cool flame colors that the different minerals created! Mr. Mason’s class also did a lab on Working Wednesday.

ALMOST, MAINE: The play premiered on Wednesday with middle school performances and continues tonight and Saturday at 7pm! It’s worth checking out and where else can you get this quality entertainment for $12?

STUDENT GOV SELFIE CHALLENGE: Our rubric didn’t quite add up to the total points we wanted Student Gov to have for the quarter, so we challenged them to get their last three points by finding the security guard and counselor assigned to their alpha group, as well as a principal or support staff of their choosing, and share the accomplishment they were most proud of from Stud Gov this quarter. The staff members then posed for a selfie as proof of the conversation. They came out so cute! Thank you to all the staff who let the kids interrupt their day for frenetic conversation.

HOCKEY SEASON BEGINS: Hockey started their official season last week. Here are some highlights from their 6-0 win over Eagle River on Halloween night. A spooky Bridge secured!

ARTSY: Some work from Wall’s class this week!

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS: Spanish Immersion celebrated Dia De Los Muertos on Nov 1 and 2 with ofrendas made for the loved ones they have said goodbye to recently. You can check these out in person by heading to the main display case by the front office.

CONFERENCES: An event most teachers described as “less intense than usual,” conferences went over smoothly last week.

DDF MOCKS: Some mock debates took place in practice last week in preparation for the Bartlett Invitational this weekend.

BAND, CHOIR, ORCHESTRA: The performing arts team hosted their fall concerts this month. The choir show even featured all four area schools, ERHS, CHS, Gruening, and Mirror Lake. Wow! A second kudos to Jared for hosting his first-ever concert after less than a quarter on the job.

WDS FAMILY: The fall family seminar night was a success! About 70 kids watched Lego Batman while their 65 parents did an adults-only seminar on John Green’s The Anthropocene Reveiwed‘s introduction.

COMMUNITY CONVENING: Chugiak Choir sang at the CCL community convening at UAA, and student representatives, including Ty Quiroz and Sam Young represented Chugiak at the event.

WRESTLING WITH OUR FEELINGS: Wrestling is off to a strong start with a HUGE team.

FCCLA TREATS: FCCLA had a fall treat-making workshop on October 17th.

CHOIR FAMILY DAY: Choir celebrated a successful concert with a family day including pancakes and fun.

FALL BANQUETS: Cross Country and Tennis had their end-of-season banquets in mid-October. Football photos are coming soon! Volleyball’s is next week.

PIE IN THE FACE! Thanks to all the staff who volunteered to get pied! We raised almost $200 for Sunshine Fund ❤
